Education That Helps Students Thrive
Access to affordable, quality public education is the key to ensuring that our children are prepared for college or are trained to compete for 21st century jobs. In the Assembly, I will promote investment in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs to ensure our youth have the skills to compete for good, high wage jobs.
I benefited greatly by attending college and law school during a time when community colleges, CSUs and UCs were all priced within reach of middle-class families. I believe California needs to increase education funding at all levels so all students can attain a world-class education without being saddled with the kind of debt that is putting the middle class further out of reach. We also need to work to ensure students have access to affordable housing and invest in childcare for parents to help them balance work, higher education and life needs as they work toward a better future for their families.
Preschool lays the foundation for future learning and helps children develop important social and life skills. The research shows that investing in the earliest levels of education can equal more positive outcomes for children and young adults, including keeping them out of trouble and on the path to prosperity. I support investing in pre-K programs so all parents can send their children to quality preschool programs.
