Acccess to Quality Healthcare
I believe everyone has a right to quality, affordable healthcare. No one should be forced to make life or death decisions about their own healthcare, or the care of a loved one, while staring down the specter of medical debt or bankruptcy. Approximately 2.9 million Californians are uninsured, the majority of them work at jobs that provide no health coverage.
I support a single-payer, universal healthcare system as the best model to reduce burgeoning healthcare costs while increasing access to quality healthcare for all. In the Assembly, I will also fight to lower prescription drug costs and reverse the cuts that were made to Medi-Cal during the Great Recession. It is important that people are encouraged to enter the healthcare field so that we have adequate providers throughout the state. I will also work to ensure our state makes important investments in long-term care so that our seniors can remain in their homes or get the quality care they need as they age.
